A conference titled “Azerbaijan`s geopolitical importance in a new international context” has been held at the Romanian-American University in Bucharest in partnership with the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

Addressing the event, director of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation`s Romania Office Igbal Hajiyev said Azerbaijan continued to develop amid global negative processes, AzerTag state news agency reported.

“The foundations of Azerbaijan`s present-day success in politics, economy, education, culture, sport and other areas were laid by national leader Heydar Aliyev. And this domestic and foreign policy is today successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev.”

The participants then watched a promotional video on Azerbaijan.

Counselor at the Azerbaijani embassy to Romania Irfan Davudov drew the audience`s attention to the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, saying it impeded regional development and posed threat to stability.

He said Azerbaijan played the role of a bridge between Europe and Asia, adding the country was involved in a lot of international projects.

Davudov hailed Romania`s supporting Azerbaijan in international organizations.

Pro-Rector of the Romanian-American University Florin Bonciu, inturn, said Azerbaijan was one of the world`s oldest oil producers.

He hailed Azerbaijan`s energy potential, saying that given regional and global geopolitical changes both Romania and entire European Union should strengthen their relations with Azerbaijan.

Director of SOCAR Romania Office Hamza Karimov highlighted regional cooperation between Black Sea and Caspian Sea countries, European gas market, Azerbaijan’s experience, and opportunities for Romania.

He provided an insight into Azerbaijan`s oil strategy and energy policy, particularly TAP, TANAP and Southern Gas Corridor projects.

Chair of Geopolitica association, editor-in-chief of Geopolitica magazine Vasile Simileanu hailed Azerbaijan as a regional power and development model.

He also touched upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, saying Armenia remained isolated from international projects because of its non-constructive position.

Chairman of Romanian Advanced Strategies Center Razvan Buzatu, who attended the 4th Baku International Humanitarian Forum, highlighted Romanian-Azerbaijani relations.

He hailed Azerbaijan`s significance “not only for its energy resources, but also for hosting high-profile international events which discuss universally important issues”.
