NAP says opposition youth’s actions as hooliganism

19 November 2012 [16:23] - TODAY.AZ
The ruling New Azerbaijan Party has called the actions of young people of some opposition parties as hooliganism. They intended to hold the unauthorised rally at Fountain Square in Baku.

"This cannot be called a rally or a picket," deputy executive secretary of the ruling party Mubariz Gurbanli said in an interview with Trend today. "I would call it hooliganism. This is nothing but hooliganism aimed at disrupting public order. The inflammatory actions aimed at creating superficial upset on the square and the deliberate creation of confrontation to disrupt social order is hooliganism."

The opposition and its leaders must know that rallies and pickets are not held this way, he added.

"Any actions must be carried out within the law," he said. "Such actions create a lot of damage and a blow not only to the public, but also the participants as a whole, to their life and recreation, posing a threat to public order.

"Therefore, we condemn these actions. We think that one cannot abuse freedoms granted by a democracy. Pickets, marches and rallies must be held within the law. So those, hiding behind younger people trying to disrupt public order on November 17, must answer before the law."
