Silk Way West replenished with new aircraft

A new Boeing 747-8 Freighter aircraft was added to the fleet of national carrier, Silk Way West.

Earlier in March, an agreement on purchasing three 747-8 Freighter airplanes was signed by President of Silk Way Group Zaur Akhundov and Vice-president of Boeing Commercial Airplanes Marty Bentrott. The contract was valued at more than $1.1 billion.

The aircraft arrived in Baku on August 17, pushing the number of Boeing 747-8 freighters owned by Silk Way West up to three.

Compared to similar models, the 747-8 has no competitors. It provides the lowest in-class operating cost and maximum efficiency. In addition, it has less of an environmental impact.

The new airplane will fly to Singapore and Komatsu, Japan.

Alongside with 747-8 Freighter, the company has three Boeing 747-400 Freighter aircrafts.

The contract with the Boeing Corporation states that Silk Way West will acquire two more Boeing 747-8 freighters, which is expected to arrive in the country in the first half of 2016.

With the acquisition of new the 747s, the national company plans to significantly expand its air cargo transit operations.

Silk Way Airlines, the Azerbaijani cargo airline has its headquarters in Baku. The airline is the leader in the region in regular and charter cargo flights to more than 50 destinations.

It offers scheduled flights to destinations across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

Silk Way West is a subsidiary of Silk Way Holding, which combines a number of companies operating in the aviation industry and related services.

It also cooperates closely with Silk Way Airlines and Azerbaijan Airlines, using cargo space on aircrafts IL-76 and AN-12 belonging to Silk Way Airlines.
