The largest regional DATA-center in Azerbaijan will start operation by the end of September, AzInTelecom reported.

AzInTelecom, the former Center for International Relations and Calculations of the Communications and High Technologies Ministry, is an operator of the data center.

At present, the DATA-center is tested for resilience to obtain a certificate of Tier3 level. The certificate will be the official confirmation that it is designed based on the best international standards on the criteria of reliability and safety.

The American company Uptime Institute is carrying out the certification process. A certificate of conformity for the DATA-center at the Tier3 level will be granted to the center upon achieving successful test results.

This certificate would be an official confirmation that the DATA-center is designed based on the best international practices in the criteria of reliability and security.

The disaster-proof DATA-center has been created to protect the data of its clients. The center will ensure stable operation in case of failure of any node of the system, as it will have a record of 99.985 percent availability.

The need to create the DATA Center is obvious in the face of the dynamic growth in the number of Internet users and Internet content. The commissioning of the DATA-center will promote the popularization of cloud services and accelerate the transition to cloud computing. The project is implemented with the support of UNDP.

“Commissioning of the DATA-center in Azerbaijan contributes to the creation of numerous information resources and services, and enhances the possibility of their use and integration into the global information environment,” the ministry said.

The data center is under construction on an area stretching over 1,000 square meters. At the initial stage, the number of servers at the center will reach 200, with the volume of the array at 30 petabytes, and data transfer rate at 10-100 gigabits per second. As needs will grow, the power of the center will be increased.

The Data center will be the first data center of its kind in the region.

Currently, a number of major world companies including Facebook, Google, Amazon, Yahoo and others, have expressed an interest in placing their IT-infrastructure in Azerbaijan’s DATA-center.

Earlier, the Ministry reported, that Hungary intends to contribute in the construction of the Tier 3 regional DATA-center in Azerbaijan.
