The European Union was waiting Friday for more definitive evidence on whether the Syrian regime had used chemical weapons, a spokesman said Friday, adding that such activities would be "unacceptable", dpa reported.
"We are still monitoring this along with our international partners to see what has really happened because it doesn't seem entirely clear at this point in time," said Michael Mann, a spokesman for EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton.
"The line we have is very, very simple: that any use of chemical weapons in any circumstances is, of course, completely unacceptable," he said, calling for the United Nations to be allowed to investigate from within Syria.
"We've seen that the regime in Syria doesn't seem to have much respect for human life," Mann said, "but we can't be definitive on this until we see definitive evidence."
