A three-day national seminar on inspecting veterinary imports has kicked off in Uzbekistan with the support of the European Union.

The event is organized within the framework of the Border Management Program in Central Asia (BOMCA), funded by the European Union.

Training for specialists of the State Veterinary Committee of Uzbekistan will be held under the guidance of experts from the European Union, representatives of the Food and Veterinary Service of the Republic of Latvia.

During the workshop, experts together with national partners will analyze international trade facilitation conventions (provisions of the World Customs Organization, the revised Kyoto Convention, WTO sanitary and phytosanitary requirements).

Participants will also discuss legislative instruments of the European Union that promote cooperation between various border authorities in strengthening the mechanisms of veterinary checks and customs procedures that meet international standards.

Since its launch in 2003, the BOMCA Programme has implemented phases targeting capacity building and institutional development, developing trade corridors, improving border management systems and eliminating drug trafficking across the Central Asia region. Each new phase of BOMCA was designed to gradually continue the Actions implemented during the preceding phases of the Programme.

In 2003-2018 for the implementation of the program, the European Union allocated more than 40 million euros, of which almost five million euros were allocated for the implementation of the ninth phase of the program, implemented in 2015-2018.
