Protestors forget to turn off loudspeakers, Yerevan Deputy Chief of Police gets angry

06 July 2015 [09:33] - TODAY.AZ

Upon the demand of Yerevan Deputy Chief of Police Valery Osipyan, the protestors struggling against electricity tariff rise in Yerevan’s Baghramyan Avenue turned off all their loudspeakers at 23:04 today.

Osipyan approached the protestors shortly after 23:00, angrily noting that it was past 23:00 and the protestors hadn’t yet turned off the loudspeakers.

“I’ve got an impression that everything is done here to spark a clash with the police. Every time you fail to turn off the loudspeakers unless we approach,” Osipyan said.

After his urge, the protestors immediately turned off the loudspeakers, saying they hadn’t kept track of the time.

Protest against the electricity price hike has been going on in Yerevan’s Baghramyan Avenue since June 22. In the morning of June 23, the police used force to disperse the protestors and arrested 237 people, but the protest resumed in the evening. Following Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s statement on June 28, disputes arose within the group of protest organizers and on the following day part of the protestors headed to Yerevan’s Liberty Square. The majority of the protestors, however, stayed in Baghramyan Avenue, where protests are still going on.
