Key disputes remain in Nuke case, to be addressed in FM level talks

02 July 2015 [13:59] - TODAY.AZ

There are still some key disputes in nuclear talks between Iran and the P5+1 that will be left for the last days, Iran 's Deputy Foreign Minister, Majid Takht Ravanchi said.

Takht Ravanchi, who is a member of Iran’s negotiating team, said that on some issues the expert level talks are finalized and are being discussed at the deputy foreign ministers level.

However he dismissed some reports about finalizing the nuclear agreement draft in expert level, saying addressing some of the issues at the expert level still continue, Takht Ravanchi said, Iran’s official IRNA news agency reported July 2.

A day before, Iran’s official IRIB news agency quoted a source close to the Iranian nuclear team as saying the expert side of the nuclear deal draft has been completed.

Containing parentheses and differences, the prospective agreement draft is to be addressed by deputy foreign ministers and then be given over to the foreign ministers of the P5+1 group (the US, UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany), the source said.

Meanwhile Takht Ravanchi said there are some disputes which can not be resolved in expert or deputy foreign minister levels.

They need to be addressed in higher political level, the Iranian diplomat said, adding most likely one or two key disputes will be discussed by the foreign ministers in last days of talks.

He refused to share more information about the remaining disputes.

Takht Ravanchi also said that foreign ministers from the parties would arrive in Vienna today for one-day talks, adding Federica Mogherini, EU foreign policy chief, is also expected to join the talks.

He added that no P5+1-Iran meeting is scheduled for July 2.

“Only bilateral talks will be held today.”

The foreign ministers will leave Vienna today after the talks, the Iranian diplomat said, adding a decision about the next round of ministerial level meeting will be held later.

Iran and the P5+1 reached framework nuclear deal in the Swiss city of Lausanne on April 2. The sides negotiated to reach a comprehensive nuclear deal by June 30 deadline, but they have decided to extend talks until July 7.
