Iran continues to unveil new achievements of its military and defense sectors in the massive military drills.

During the last day of the military exercises, kicked off on February 25, Iran tested a new strategic weapon.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ naval, land and airborne forces participated in the third and last day of the major drill dubbed “Prophet Mohammad- 9” which was held in the Gulf and the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

Although Iran media have covered the events at length key details were kept out of news reports for obvious national security reasons.

Ali Fadavi, IRGC’s naval commander Rear Admiral explained that the new weapons will play a decisive role in increasing Iran’s naval force ability to thwart any attacks and neutralize any enemy - namely the U.S., ISNA news agency reported on February 27.

IRGC also tested some of its new military equipment and weapons including the RPH reconnaissance drone equipped with powerful cameras, Jamarat missile with range of 14 kilometers, Ramait roadside mine, Sayyad bounding mine, Asef 23mm gatling gun, Arash shoulder-launched weapon and sniper rifle Siyavash on the second day of the drill.

On the first day of its drill the IRGC Naval Force successfully targeted a U.S. aircraft carrier model.

The real size model came under attack and was destroyed by missiles and rockets fired from tens of IRGC speedboats.

In recent years, Iran has made several major breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems, including a variety of domestically-manufactured drones.

Since 1992, Iran has manufactured its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles, radars, boats, submarines and fighter planes.

The country has so far unveiled various domestically produced drones, including Ababil, Fotros, Hazem, Karrar (long range attack drone), Mohajer, Sarir, Shahed 129, Yasir and Zohal.

Iranian officials have always stressed that the country's military and arms programs serve defensive purposes and should not be perceived as a threat to any other country.
