Georgian President Girogi Margvelashvili attended the official opening ceremony of the second UN conference on the landlocked countries. Head of the UN Ban Ki-moon chaired the Conference and made opening speech.

Georgian President's Advisor on Economic Issues Georgi Abashishvili said Georgia could offer several advantages to the landlocked countries and these were very important.

"The UN Conference dedicated to the landlocked countries is one of the important events," Abashishvili said. "Georgia's role here is significant, as many other countries are using its transition functions. On the other hand, Georgia can play a leading role in the progress of the landlocked countries, facilitating their integration into the world economy based on the mutual benefits,"

He added that Georgia itself gains a stimulus from the cooperation with such countries. "Bilateral relations between Georgia and the landlocked countries gives a stimulus to our country's economic development and promotes to attract foreign investments."

Georgia joined the world's largest United Nations Organization on July 31 in 1992. The country carried out many programs and projects jointly with the UN throughout its membership in the alliance of 193 countries.
