Azerbaijani ex-president's status gets second reading

15 November 2011 [17:00] - TODAY.AZ
The constitutional law on 'Providing the Security of an Ex-Azerbaijani President and His Family' was adopted in its second reading during a Tuesday meeting of the Azerbaijani parliament.

The law applies to all presidents who led the country after it became independent, chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Legal Policy and State Building Ali Huseynli said at a meeting today.

He said that the ex-president will receive a pension of 50 per cent of the salary of the incumbent president.

"MPs originally proposed to raise the pension rate to 80 per cent," he said. "But the monthly salary of the incumbent president is 7,500 - 8,000 manat. About 20 per cent is allocated for expenses. This is a sufficient amount according to the legislation."
