Azerbaijani MP: It perplexes Armenia and its allies

08 June 2010 [12:12] - TODAY.AZ
"The problem of Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan would have been solved long ago if  international community had just a bit of fair attitude towards the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict," member of the Azerbaijani Milli Majis (Parliament) Aynur Jamalgizi said.

She was commenting on Armenian media reports claiming that Russian President will take final version of the conflict resolution treaty to Armenia in August.

The MPs says there are contradictions inside Armenia. On one hand, Armenian politicians say Armenia will never free Azerbaijan’s lands. One the other hand, the country’s press widely debates version of Armenian troops’ pull out from the occupied lands.

“Yerevan seeks to maintain the state of “neither war nor a peace” in the region. But Armenia and countries having interest in the region cannot simply ignore Turkey’s growing role not only in Caucasus, but also in the Central Asia and Middle East. Turkey has made it clear unequivocally that the relations with Armenia can be normalized only after Azerbaijan’s occupied territories are freed. It perplexes Armenia and its allies,” the MP said.

As to the role of the OSCE Minsk Group, Jamalgizi says the talks held within this format are of a formal nature and are aimed at achieving mutually acceptable and sustainable peace.

Concerning Russia-Turkey rapprochement, the MP believes it will have a positive impact on resolution of the Karabakh conflict. She also criticized Moscow’s stance in the conflict settlement saying that “Russia stands behind Armenia’s actions.”

"I think once Moscow decides that Azerbaijan’s territories should be liberated, it will happen. It all depends on Moscow’s will. One should not expect Yerevan to demonstrate a constructive position in the negotiations until Moscow shows will,” the MP added.
