New spheres of cooperation were identified between Georgia and Azerbaijan, the First Lady of Georgia Sandra Elisabeth Roelofs said in Baku.
"At a meeting with the President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva we discussed some important questions relating to Azerbaijan and Georgia. For all of us, the territorial integrity is the most sensitive issue. The meeting identified new spheres of cooperation," Sandra Elizabeth Roelofs said at a meeting with the working group on the Azerbaijan-Georgian inter-parliamentary relations.
Azerbaijan and Georgia will conduct exchange of pupils, said the First Lady of Georgia. "In addition, cooperation will be made between the theaters of Baku and Tbilisi. Today we visited the Thalassemia Center, and we will cooperate with Mrs. Mehriban in reducing blood diseases," said the First Lady of Georgia.
"Representatives of the Azerbaijani Parliament at various international organizations support this country as a political ally during the discussions related to Georgia. Cooperation strengthens between our parliaments and in other spheres," the head of the working group on the Azerbaijani-Georgian inter-parliamentary relations Ganira Pashayeva said at the meeting.
According to Pashayeva, the Georgians living in Azerbaijan, and the Azerbaijanis living in Georgia are a strong bridge between the two countries.
"You are also making efforts for projects regarding the Azerbaijanis living in Georgia. At the initiative of the First Lady of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, MP Mehriban Aliyeva, much has been done to address the problems of Georgians living in Azerbaijan, in the field of education and culture," she said.
Pashayeva said the President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili also demonstrates soulfulness in solving the problems of the Azerbaijanis.
"We know that you also carry out great work in this regard, and we are grateful for it. At a meeting with the First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva, you have agreed to implement several new projects on cooperation and are confident that this will be huge support to the development of relations between the two countries," said Pashayeva.
The amnesty act adopted by the Parliament of Azerbaijan on the initiative of Mehriban Aliyeva concerned thousands of citizens, she said.
"As you know, the biggest problem of Azerbaijan is Armenia's occupation of 20 percent of Azerbaijani territories. As a result of the occupation, one million people were forced to leave their homes and became refugees. Georgia, also suffering from such a problem, well understands us. Despite that no tent camp has left in Azerbaijan, the resolutions of the international organizations still remain unfulfilled," said Pashayeva.
