Azerbaijan's Gazakh, Lithuania’s Trakai establish cooperation

Azerbaijan's Gazakh and Lithuania’s Trakai have signed an agreement that will see the two regions to enhance cooperation in culture, sports, tourism, business and agriculture sectors.

The document was signed by Head of Gazakh Region Executive Authority Rajab Babashov and Mayor of Trakai Edita Rudeliene, Azertac reported.

Rudeliene hailed the signing of the agreement noting that this is a result of cooperation between the Association of Municipalities of Lithuania and National Association of Settlement Municipalities of Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijani Ambassador to Lithuania Hasan Mammadzade, in turn, voiced his confidence that relations between Gazakh and Trakai will continue to develop, adding that the Embassy will spare no efforts to contribute to this.

The member of the Group for Inter-Parliamentary Relations with Azerbaijan in Lithuanian Seimas, Jonas Liesys, said the agreement laid the foundation of cooperation between Gazakh and Trakai regions.

Head of the Working Group on Azerbaijani-Lithuanian inter-parliamentary ties Kamran Nabizade stressed that the cooperation between the two regions will contribute to the development of the two countries` relationship.

Trakai can be proclaimed being one of the most visited spots on the cultural tourism map. The former capital with all the ancient castles lies beside the current Vilnius metropolis.

Trakai  is a historic city and lake resort in Lithuania. The city lies 28 kilometres (17 miles) west of Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. A notable feature of Trakai is that the town was built and preserved by people of different nationalities.

For over 600 years, a small Turkic ethnic group - the Karaites, belonging to ancient Turkic tribes Kipchaks, have lived in Trakai. The Lithuanian Grand Duke Vytautas brought several hundred Karaite families from the Crimea to Trakai after one of his war campaigns.

The city is surrounded by 5 lakes: Galve, Skaistis,  Luka, Totorishkiu and Akmena.Trakai castle as many other architectural monuments of the city  is the part of the Trakai Historical National Park.

In addition to museums, trips by boats, yachts or steam boat, swimming or diving, camping and visits to cafes, many consider walking in the city or just sitting near lake also as relaxing and enjoyable.

Gazakh which is famous for being home to many talented artists: poets, scientists, artists, and singers, has long been a cultural center in the region. Poets Molla Panakh Vagif, Vidadi, Samed Vurgun, Hussein Mehti were all born here.

The region surprises with its wonderful rivers, beautiful woods, meadows and a lot of architectural places.

In Gazakh guests will enjoy the architecture of the ancient mosque which still operates bath houses. In Gazakh, there are several shady parks and museum with beautiful exhibitions.
