
Azerbaijani ambassador to Belgium and head of the country`s representation in the European Union Fuad Isgandarov has presented his credentials to president of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso.
The European Commission`s president asked the ambassador to extend his greetings to President Ilham Aliyev. He spoke of development of relationship between EU and Azerbaijan, and cooperation as part of the Eastern Partnership program. Barroso expressed confidence continuation of political and economic reforms would contribute to strengthening Azerbaijan`s positive image in Europe. He also stressed the importance of strategic energy partnership between Azerbaijan and EU, and expressed confidence the South gas corridor would soon be realized.
Touching upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Barroso said the current status quo is unacceptable. He said EU supports OSCE Minsk Group`s activity to settle the conflict, adding the organization is ready to contribute to finding a solution to the problem.
Ambassador Isgandarov delivered Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev`s greetings to Barroso.
The diplomat said his country was a reliable partner for the European Union. Isgandarov spoke of political and economic projects carried out in Azerbaijan, as well as Armenia`s aggressive policy against his country.
Barroso appreciated the fact that President Ilham Aliyev attaches great importance to modernization of Azerbaijan. The European Commission`s president also said he wants to meet President Ilham Aliyev next year.
