Karma, she's like that. Maybe you're waiting around the
corner somewhere, and then there's a flash, and you're already in... not in
chocolate.
The Financial Times newspaper reported that Canadian
separatists advocating the separation of the province of Alberta from Canada
have met with Trump's representatives three times and are planning a fourth
meeting. According to the newspaper, citing sources, the leaders of the Alberta
Prosperity Project, a group of far-right separatists seeking the independence
of the western province, have met with representatives of the State Department
in Washington three times since April last year, and they plan to hold another
meeting in February. As noted, in the upcoming negotiations, supporters of the
separation of Alberta intend to request a credit line worth up to $ 500
billion. These funds, according to their plan, should be used in the event of a
referendum on the province's secession from the Canadian state.
As you know, US relations with Canada are not the best right
now, and the separatists decided to take advantage of the situation.
In other words, Canada has reached the most cherished
corner, behind which karma was waiting for it for its long-term support of the
Armenian separatists. What I fought for, I ran into.
We are not gloating at all: separatism is a great evil, and we, as a country affected by it, will not wish anyone to face this phenomenon. Separatism destroys States, incites discord and intolerance, and, if circumstances arise, leads to bloodshed.
After Justin Trudeau left office, Armenian interests were
forgotten in Canada. There was no time for that. That's why Trudeau ran away,
because Canada itself has serious problems that the new government now has to
solve. The new US administration has a special attitude towards its northern
neighbor. As you know, Trump has withdrawn Mark Carney's invitation to join the
Peace Council.
The separatists, as expected, decided to take advantage of
the situation and enlist the support of the state. All this was very
reminiscent of the situation in the late 80s of the last century, when Mikhail
Gorbachev's so-called perestroika set in motion Armenian separatism. The
Armenians have been waiting for their time, and they have waited for it.
Separatism in Canada is caused by the desire of a number of
ethnic and regional groups living compactly in Canada to form independent
national states. This problem has always existed, and therefore Canada's
zealous support for Armenian separatism and Armenia was surprising. How could a
country that faced such a problem not understand the troubles that had befallen
someone else?
Justin Trudeau is remembered for his socks and hugs with
Nikol Pashinyan. Since coming to the leadership of Canada, this politician has
demonstrated a pro-Armenian position. Although it is unclear what this overseas
country had to do with the South Caucasus. And after participating in the
Francophonie Forum in Yerevan in October 2018, Trudeau became Armenia's
boyfriend. Socks in the colors of the Armenian flag were produced especially
for him in Yerevan. Justin turned out to be a great admirer and collector of
this piece of clothing.
Canada loudly supported Yerevan in its occupation policy,
and after the Second Karabakh War, together with France, became the defender of
the "Karabakh people." I cannot count how many statements the
Canadian Foreign Ministry made in the post-war years, especially during the
environmental action on the Lachin road and after the anti-terrorist operation
in 2023.
In April last year, in honor of the next anniversary of the
alleged "Armenian genocide", the leader of the Conservative Party of
Canada, Pierre Pouillevre, called for "long overdue justice for the
Armenian people" and stated that "all freedom-loving nations are
obliged to stand with them on their (Armenians') side." to ensure that
these crimes never happen again." This referred to the voluntary exodus of
Armenians from the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, which was declared
"ethnic cleansing" by pro-Armenian circles in Canada. But former
Canadian Foreign Minister Melonie Joly has always been particularly inspired by
the Armenian theme. Madame never missed an opportunity to throw a stone in the
direction of Baku, and she particularly admired the "resilience" of
the Karabakh Armenians, who allegedly endured "a lot of suffering."
After visiting Yerevan after the departure of the Armenians from Karabakh, Jolie spoke about the sanctions against Baku, which are on the agenda of the Canadian government. These statements were so provocative that they angered even the Canadian Ambassador to Armenia.
As you can learn from the network, the separation of the
province of Alberta from Canada is a movement caused by economic and political
differences with the federal government, especially in the oil sector. Although
50 percent of residents supported the idea of secession in 2019, they were not
particularly worried in Ottawa, considering the likelihood of such a scenario
to be minimal. Unilateral secession from Canada is not legally provided for by
the Constitution, and the government, of course, was not going to give consent
to the collapse of the country.
Unlike Quebec and Nushalka separatism, separatism in Alberta
is primarily caused by economic reasons. This region is the center of Canada's
oil industry and has always expressed dissatisfaction with the redistribution
of funds to the federal budget and Ottawa's environmental policy. Alberta is
rich in minerals, exports oil, gas and industrial products, mainly to the
neighboring United States. Residents of the province believe that Alberta serves
as a "cash cow" for Ottawa, and local officials are tightening the
screws by taxing and holding back the development of the oil and gas industry.
The separatists plan to create a "Western Canada" on this territory
along with other western provinces. But recently, Alberta separatists have
preferred to defend the interests of the province within the borders of Canada.
However, the current international situation, the collapse of international law
and the unequivocal interests of the US administration in this country have
allowed the separatists to reconsider their priorities.
Meanwhile, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant said the
other day that the Canadian province of Alberta could hold a referendum on
independence, and called it a natural partner of Washington against this
background. According to TASS, they have "excellent resources. Albertans
are very independent people. There are rumors that they may hold a referendum
on whether to remain part of Canada or not."
It wasn't instant karma, it only hit Canada today. Unfortunately, neither Trudeau nor Joly, who have lost their posts, will feel in all colors all the pleasures of rampant separatism, supported from outside. But socks in the colors of the Armenian flag will surely remind Justy of something.
