Today.Az » Weird / Interesting » Sword swallowing world record as Australian swallows 18 swords - PHOTOS
09 February 2010 [09:57] - Today.Az

And you thought you had a sore throat? An Australian street performer has set the world record for sword swallowing - sticking no fewer than 18 metal blades down his gullet.

Chayne Hultgren - also known as 'The Space Cowboy' - beat the record he himself had set in 2008, at an event in Sydney.

Each of the swords was 72 cm - almost 2 1/2 feet long.

The 31-year-old Hultgren said he been practising with swords since he was 16, and had used different methods to perfect his technique - including stretching his throat with hoses.

'I waited a few years until I’d got it perfect and then I moved on to using stainless steel blades,' he said.

Hultgren said that while the stunt was not dangerous, he spent many hours training for it.

'It’s amazing - I’m really happy. It’s definitely one of my greatest achievements so far,' he commented after setting the record.
