It was decided to grant license to Azercell and Bakcell operators for 3G mobile communication services in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Communications and IT held board meeting devoted to outcomes of 9 months of 2011.

Delivering keynote speech at the event Minister of Communications and IT Ali Abbasov spoke about the reforms conducted within 9 months of 2011, in different spheres of information and communication sector. He noted that the incomes to be got in this sector would be strongly impact on development of country’s economy.

Speaking about the results, recorded on the sector within 9 months of 2011, the minister noted that growth rate in ICT sector within the last period made 12.4%, as well as 8.3% - in telecommunication sector, 1.6 times – IT sector, 38.8% - information sector.

The number of mobile subscribers within the reporting period was equal to 10 mln, the number of computers per head – 15, number of internet users – 60. This indicator exceeds the world average indicator more than 2 times.

After the speeches the minister said that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev highly assessed the development of information and communication technologies sphere in the country, gave tasks for management of projects and issues assuming great importance, at the same time for elimination of the existing shortcomings in this sphere.

Decision was passed at the board meeting in connection with issuing of 3G license to Azercell and Bakcell operators. At the same time, the relevant bodies of the ministry and 3 mobile operators were tasked to make appropriate proposals in accordance with technical and legal norms for application of 4G (LTI) mobile communication service.
