Azerbaijan plans to export roughly 7.4 billion cubic meters of gas to Russia, Georgia and Turkey this year, a senior representative of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) said today. The company will export 1 billion cubic meters of gas to Russia, 1.4 billion cubic meters to Georgia and about 5 billion cubic meters to Turkey, the source said.
Azerbaijan began gas supplies to Russia on Jan. 1. The medium-term contract on the purchase and sale of Azerbaijani gas to Russia was signed between SOCAR and Gazprom in Baku on Oct. 14. The contract covers 2010-2014. Based on the new document signed in early September, Azerbaijan will increase gas exports to Russia to 2 billion cubic meters per year from 2011 and to over 2 billion cubic meters per year from 2012.
Azerbaijan also supplies gas to Georgia and Turkey. Georgia receives large volumes of gas from the Shah Deniz gas condensate field, which is developed by SOCAR and its foreign partners. Azerbaijani makes gas deliveries to Turkey under a contract to develop the first stage of the field. Turkey will receive 6.6 billion cubic meters of gas per year during the peak production.
