U.S. ready to support Azerbaijan in joining WTO

The United States assess the possible accession of Azerbaijan to the WTO as an important step forward, Davidson said.

"U.S. is ready to support reforms implemented in Azerbaijan on the recommendations of the organization," he said.

Azerbaijan appealed to the WTO for the purpose of joining the organization in 1997. Intensive work in this direction started in 2004, while negotiations with the organization and its member-states are still under way.

There has been a considerable economic growth in Azerbaijan through the past years, he said. "The energy sources of the country are developed jointly with foreign partners to enter the international market", Davidson said.

However, Azerbaijan's main wealth is not energy. "The true wealth of Azerbaijan is education and educated young people," Davidson added.
