Azerbaijani youth must be more active in strengthening country's economy: minister

"One of the main directions of the state youth policy is to support the youth and ensure their employment," Rahimov said at the opening of an international student program "Students in free entrepreneurship".

The minister said roughly 20,000 youth applied to the employment agency in 2008, of whom 14,000 were provided with jobs.

"Since early 2009, 4,000 young people have applied to the employment agency, half of them have been provided with jobs," Rahimov said.
   
Young people at 14-29 years old make up 60 percent of the Azerbaijani population.
