Heydar Babayev: "I regard the Caspian basin as a region of wide opportunities and potential"

The fifth session of the Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation is held in Astana.
"Kazakhstan hopes for a significant expansion of trade cooperation with Azerbaijan", said Kazakh Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Sauat Minbayev, according to Interfax-Kazakhstan.

"Deterioration of the world conjuncture contributes to this issue, but we, nevertheless, hope for the significant expansion of trade cooperation and suppose that these difficulties and temporary and passing", said Minbayev.

"It was not proposed to reach any special agreements at this intergovernmental commission. We just stated the process of work, which is more intensive", said the Kazakh minister.

Azerbaijan's Minister of Economic Development Heydar Babayev in turn said during the press conference that regional cooperation is a priority for the Caspian states.

"I regard our region, the so-called Caspian basin, as a region of wide opportunities and potential. Therefore, I think regional cooperation is a priority not only for Azerbaijan bur also for the neighbor countries", said he.

"Therefore, I think that our meetings should not be assessed only on basis of definite results", he added.
