Large steel enterprise to be constructed in Baku

Ltd. Baku Steel Company has chosen the German company SMS Siemag as a contractor for the construction of new steel plant in Govsany village, the company said on Wednesday.

"Company SMS Siemag has already submitted its proposals to the management of the Ltd.," a statement said.

Production capacity of the new plant is one million tons. "The plant will be equipped with new technologies that meet high standards," a statement said.

According to the project, the issue of environmental protection is one of the most important in the manufacturing process.

The new plant will provides more than a thousand new jobs.

Ltd. Baku Steel Company has begun the process of production in June 2001. As a major supplier of valves in the domestic market, Ltd. Baku Steel Company also produces goods for export to Russia, Georgia, Turkmenistan and Iran.

The company produces various grades of steel in the form of billets with square cross-section of 120, 140 and 150 mm and a length of 12000 mm, and as a reinforcement of diameter 10-32 mm in size and length of 6000-12000 mm. The new steel plant will produce iron sheets and other products.
