
Only certified guides will be able to serve guests, who are supposed to arrive in Azerbaijan in May to attend the Eurovision 2012” Song Contest, the deputy rector of the Azerbaijan Tourism Institute under the Culture and Tourism Ministry, Eldar Aslanov, said.
“If some about 30,000-40,000 guests arrive in Baku, then 100 - 150 guides will be enough to serve the guests ,” he said “But, if the tourists would like to visit the country’s regions before or after the contest, then local guides will serve them."
He said the Azerbaijani Tourism University prepares guides for info tours to be set up in Baku and Absheron peninsula. The Ministry will also organize tours in Gobustan, Gala, Atashgah and other places of interest.
The University started certification of guides this year. Each guide should pass appropriate course and language test at the Azerbaijani Tourism University to obtain a certificate. Commission verifies guides in history, culture, art, architecture and other spheres. Qualified guides will be granted certificates entitling them to work in this area for five years.
