Georgia must continue integrating into Europe, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said after a working session of the summit of the Eastern Partnership leaders in Chisinau today.
According to the Georgian president's administration, Saakashvili placed an emphasis on the European future of Georgia and Moldova. He also spoke about the reforms carried out in Georgia and about the country's difficulties after the October parliamentary elections.
"It is a pity that a few years ago, we assumed that Moldova and Georgia would sign an association agreement at the Vilnius summit and considered the great European perspectives," he said. "Georgia has faced some difficulties since 2012. I hope that these are temporary. It is a pity that now we are talking about the problems more than .previously."
He drew parallels between the political processes in Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova and also drew attention to the risks that separate the country from European values.
"We are learning from the past," he said. "So, let's encourage young people and we will never go back."
Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili, who is Mikheil Saakashvili's political opponent, has today spoken of the need for the country's European integration.
