Georgia, U.S. mull relatons

Secretary of Georgian National Security Council, Giga Bokeria and U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Eric Rubin discussed processes progressing after the parliamentary elections held in Georgia and agenda of the working group, functioning under U.S.-Georgia Charter on Strategic Partnership.

As the Georgian National Security Council told Trend, the meeting was attended by U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Evelyn Farkas, Deputy Secretary of the National Security Council of Georgia, Batu Kutelia and U.S. Ambassador to Georgia, Richard Norland.

The sides spoke about a need to deepen cooperation between the two countries in the fields of defense and security, international security and Georgia's contribution to maintain it.

The meeting participants stressed that the further deepening of cooperation in defense and security is an important factor not only for security of Georgia and its Euro-Atlantic integration, but also for regional stability.

The meeting discussed the agenda of the meeting of the Working Group on Security, established within the U.S.-Georgia Charter on Strategic Partnership. Eric Rubin arrived in Tbilisi to attend this meeting.

The meeting considered also important foreign-policy issues as the Geneva consultations and Georgian-Russian relations. The sides focused on the elections held in Georgia and the processes developing after them.

U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Eric Rubin, who arrived in Georgia on Tuesday, has already met with Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili and Georgian Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze.
