The agreement between Gazprom and SOCAR in the gas sphere can not be viewed beyond the general context of the Russian-Azerbaijani relations and consider this as one of the elements of new area formation, more trusty and close cooperation between the two countries, said Alexei Vlasov, director general of the Center to study sociopolitical processes in the post-Soviet area, deputy dean of the historical faculty at the Moscow State University.

According to him, despite the important economic component of this document, it has a very serious political subtext, related to closing positins between Russia and Azerbaijan in the sphere of geopolitical and economic processes.

On the possible appointment of OSCE MG co-chair Matthew Bryza as the US ambassador to Azerbaijan and Russia's attitude to it, he said:

"I think Bryza is not perceived ambiguously in Moscow, but if the department of state takes this decision, this will influences the overall context of ties development. In the end, any decision on this issue is related to the department of state and I think no one will protest against it.

Vlasov also spoke of the expected official visit of Barack Obama to Russia.

"I think Russia has already pointed its position on the Gabala problem and I think chances that the Russian proposal will be perceived in the sense of its implementation are not high. There is an impression that Washington is not greatly interested in such a format of using prospects. There are definite hopes but I am not optimistic that Russian proposals will will accepted by Washington", concluded he.
