The rules set for voters in the June parliamentary elections
in Armenia have left the diaspora out of business. The revanchist opposition
hoped to win with the votes of the multi-million diaspora, but this proved
impossible.
This time, polling stations abroad will not be organized. To
vote, foreign Armenians will have to come to Armenia and put their ballot in
the ballot box, being physically present in their "historical
homeland." A considerable part of the Armenians of the Diaspora have dual and
even triple citizenship, and Samvel Karapetyan hoped that the Russian Armenians
would vote for him. And as you know, there are more Armenians living in Russia
than in Armenia itself. Now they're quipping on social media: Samvel will have
to buy tickets for his constituents so they can come and vote for him.
The ban was introduced for Armenian citizens permanently residing abroad. Only diplomats and military personnel who are studying or on a business trip in other countries are allowed to vote online. Even Armenian students studying at foreign universities will not be able to go and support the revanchists.
Why are we talking about revanchists? Because the diaspora
is opposed to Nikol Pashinyan, and this situation has not developed today. The
Armenian Prime Minister has not been on good terms with Spyurk since the very
beginning of his premiership. He immediately made it clear that the Diaspora
would no longer dictate the rules to Yerevan, as it has always been since
Armenia gained independence. Although, more broadly, the Diaspora dictated to
Armenians how they should live in Armenia, even in Soviet times. That was the
norm. In fact, the Armenian SSR was under the control of the Diaspora no less
than the central authorities of the USSR. Spyurk strictly monitored the
formation of a misogynistic ideology, and the Soviet government, oddly enough,
ensured the inviolability of this ideology.
It is no coincidence that the revanchist circles of Armenia
are so attached to the diaspora, trying to please it and demonstrate that they
are ready to share power with it and make Armenia a safe haven for
extra-regional interests again.
"We must make Armenia a home for all ten million
Armenians," Samvel Karapetyan said earlier at a meeting with young people.
He criticized the current government, which pointed out its place to the
Diaspora, and now it "does not exist in the life of Armenia." And
that's why Armenia lost and blah blah blah...
The current Armenian government's relations with Turkey are
very bad, and Yerevan is no longer trying to hide it. Nikol Pashinyan's
government is destroying one pillar of the "Armenian identity" after
another.
For two hundred years, the Armenian nation has been based on
four pillars - the church, the Diaspora, the "genocide" and the
"miatsum". The fundamental foundations of Etchmiadzin's influence
have been seriously damaged by Pashinyan's policies. The criminal
"miatsum" is locked up with many locks. Official Yerevan has
questioned the myth of the "genocide". As for the diaspora, Pashinyan
also took it out of the game. The relationship with spyurk didn't work out
right away. The Diaspora is used to dictating to Yerevan, and here the new
prime minister decided to rid Armenia of the dictates of diaspora
organizations.
Recently, this position of the authorities made itself felt
so openly that it blew up the French Armenians.
At the end of April, a new building of the Armenian Embassy
was opened in Paris. The list of guests did not include the leaders of the
local Armenian Diaspora, the head of the French diocese of the Armenian
Apostolic Church, as well as the "representative" of the separatists
in France. "Nagorno-Karabakh" has not existed for three years, and
the "representative" of the separatist regime in Paris is still
eating someone's bread.
Yerevan's actions have greatly angered the Coordinating
Council of Armenian Organizations of France (CCAF). A special statement was
made, which shows that the diaspora is barely holding itself together.
Previously, there were red carpets in front of her leadership, but now they
were not allowed to attend the buffet. They wouldn't let me in... Ah, Aru
Toranian and Murad Papazian himself.
In 2022, CCAF co-chairman Papazian was banned from entering
Armenia, and he was recognized as an undesirable person in the country. The
office of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan explained this decision by Papazyan's
alleged involvement in organizing the attack on June 1, 2021 in France on the
motorcade of Pashinyan's delegation at the Armenian Embassy.
The conflict between Papazian and Pashinyan has turned the entire French Armenian community against the Armenian Prime Minister. The mediator between Pashinyan and Dashnak was not anyone but President Macron himself. In February 2024, during the reburial of an Armenian resistance member in the Pantheon, Macron literally forced Nicola to put up with Dashnak. After the dinner at the Elysee Palace, the President initiated a meeting between Nikol Pashinyan and CCAF Co-Chairs Murad Papazyan and Ara Toranian. It's like watching a bride. Macron described in vivid colors the virtues and work of these two, talked about their contribution to working with the French government and politicians. But it didn't work out. The "peace talks" ended in a skirmish. However, Macron did not give up and forced Nikol Pashinyan to allow Dashnak to come to Armenia.
Ara Torosyan was the press secretary of the terrorist ASALA.
In 1985, he was arrested and sentenced to 15 years in prison for harboring
those involved in the bombing of Paris' Orly airport, but the verdict was
appealed, and Toronian managed to escape the punishment he deserved. Now he's a
big shot in the Diaspora.
The "permanent representative" of the separatists
in France, Hovhannes Gevorgyan, has always felt very good in this country.
There was no need even for the support of the diaspora, because there were
always comfortable conditions for such activities. The separatist was received
in official offices, signed some kind of unauthorized agreements with local
lobbyists and mayors of French provinces, was a frequent guest on France's main
TV channels, and drove French delegations to Karabakh during the occupation. It
is difficult to say whether his "position", indicated in the angry
CCAF statement, is spoken only in the diaspora, or whether Gevorgyan continues
to be considered a "diplomat" in official French circles. Most
likely, this scammer is no longer accepted at the official level. Especially
now, when Paris wants to improve relations with Baku.
