
Azerbaijan and Dagestan intend to enhance mutually beneficial economic cooperation, Azerbaijani Prime Minister Artur Rasizade and President of the Republic of Dagestan of the Russian Federation Magomedsalam Magomedov said at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers May 24.
Head of the Azerbaijani government said that historical friendship and brotherhood unite our people. Azerbaijan is always happy to observe the progress of Dagestan. Azerbaijani National Leader Heydar Aliyev paid much attention to expand relations with Dagestan, which is one of the subjects of the Russian Federation, with which Azerbaijan is actively cooperating in various fields, he said.
Stressing the dynamic development of Azerbaijan's economy in the global financial crisis, Rasizade said that last year GDP growth was 9.6%. A number of state programs in the social sphere were adopted. Modern medical diagnostic centers were built in regions. Schools were built and renovated. Azerbaijani Prime Minister said that the priorities for the domestic economy are to develop non-oil sector and infrastructure projects. Rasizade informed members of Dagestan's delegation about Azerbaijan's main problem - unresolved Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Dagestan's President Magomedsalam Magomedov, in his turn, noted the importance for using the experience of Azerbaijani oil workers while developing of offshore oil fields in the territory of Dagestan. He also stressed the need to accelerate work on the preparations for the first meeting of Azerbaijan-Dagestan intergovernmental commission, as well as a joint project of building hydroelectric power stations on the river Samur.
Dagestan's president said that Azerbaijan occupies an important place in the foreign trade of the subject of the Russian Federation. So, last year the trade turnover with Azerbaijan totaled $ 200 million, which is a very high rate for Dagestan.
