Large construction and industrial companies have already begun to reduce their staff, said Panah Huseyn, member of the standing parliamentary commission on security and defense issues, speaking about growing reduction of staff in companies.
He said this is caused by the completion of projects especially in construction.
"The situation is deteriorated by the fact that corruption in the country affected these economic sectors dramatically. The situation depends on the global economic crisis. The statements that the financial crisis will bypass Azerbaijan seem naive enough. It will be difficult to pass this process without losses, but at the time we should work to reduce the negative influence to minimum.
I think the key moment here is the reduction of corruption in Azerbaijan, though, unfortunately, we do not observe it at the moment. Reduction in the corruption level will promote expansion of state orders and projects. This will not only preserve old jobs but also have a positive influence on opening of new vacancies", said the deputy.
According to him, the government has already started preparing an anticrisis program and perhaps the state budget of 2009 might be reviewed in May and even earlier.
"But anyway the implementation of this program will remain on the paper, if no serious changes are reached in the sphere of corruption. In case corruption is eliminated state receipts will rise by AZN 4-5 bln", noted the deputy.
"One of the main ways out of this situation is a serious attack on corruption, which will be difficult to do as corruption in Azerbaijan is on the state level not on the level of any criminal groups", concluded Huseyn.
