Common goal: Azerbaijanis and Turks unite against Armenians and "Armenian genocide" in Canada - PHOTOS

15 June 2011 [12:40] - TODAY.AZ
As the media reported earlier, Armenian Youth Federation launched a 72-hour Hunger Strike calling on Turkey to recognize the "Armenian Genocide" and "stop human rights violations". Starting Friday, June 10, Armenians gathered at a close distance to the Turkish Consulate on Queens Quay and Lower Spadina Avenue, with signs, flags, a coffin and other attributes.

They were there for 3 days, including the Sunday Candlelight Vigilance at 9 pm right across the street from the Consulate. On Monday, June 13, the 72-hour Hunger Strike was supposed to culminate in a big pro-Armenian Protest.

However, the University of Toronto Azerbaijani Student Association (AzSA), the Federation of Canadian Turkish Associations (FCTA) and all other community and student groups who joined to protest against injustice, historical revisionism, defamation and Turcophobia.

According to Iskandar Gadirzadeh, a member of AzSA, "from the very first day of the hunger strike, Friday, Azerbaijanis and Turks were handing out brochures and fact sheets about Armenian lies, aggressive policies, hatred, occupation of Azerbaijani lands and Khojaly, across the street from the Armenians. We were also armed with posters, signs, t-shirts and flags. The small counter protests of 10-15 people each day from Friday to Sunday delivered a message of our presence and awareness of their plans."

Below are the photos shot during the 4 day protest.

Azerbaijanis would like to thank everyone who showed up to these events, even came a long way from Hamilton, and those who contributed and made it possible to cover the costs for t-shirts and brochures.
