Azerbaijani President signs order on preparation for London Summer Olympics

Under the presidential Order, the Cabinet of Ministers must ensure – on the basis of programs of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Olympic Committee – the funding for national teams to prepare for the London Olympics, including arranging their training camps and athletes' participation in international tournaments, and organizing Olympic qualifying events in Baku.

In the Order, the President praised the expansion of Olympic movement in the country, saying: “The fact our athletes claimed one gold, two silver and four bronze medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics is a vivid evidence of it.”

“Azerbaijani athletes' recent triumphs at large-scaled events and the potential of the younger generation of sportsmen raise our hopes for even better results at the forthcoming Olympics,” the President said in the Order.
