23 July 2016 [15:00] - TODAY.AZ

The closing ceremony of the FIG World Cup Final in Rhythmic Gymnastics in Baku will be a logical continuation of the opening ceremony, Mariana Vasileva, the ceremony’s director and the head coach of the Azerbaijani national team, told Trend July 23.

Vasileva said the protagonist of the closing ceremony will once again become the Little Prince, who arrived in Azerbaijan and got acquainted with its beauties.

“According to the scenario, the Little Prince, who already went through all the beautiful places of Azerbaijan, on his way home from the Yanardag hill,” she said. “He will give the fire from this mountain to our best athlete Marina Durunda. She will go round the field, vineyards, and so forth, going back to the Shamakhi observatory.”

The head coach also expressed her regrets in connection with the latest events in the world.

These events killed a lot of innocent people, children, who would become famous athletes, said Vasileva adding that therefore, the first part of the closing ceremony is the "dance of lieutenants" dedicated to all the innocent victims.

“The dance will be accompanied by the song “Janab Lieutenant,” said Vasileva. “During the last element of the ceremony, little “stars” of gymnastics will turn out the servicemen out the stage demonstrating that only sports can save the world from wars.”

They are dancing and go with the Little Prince to his planet, she added.

Vasileva also noted that they started to prepare this performance in just a few days before the opening of the competitions, and it coincided with the information about the death of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces’ senior lieutenant on the frontline, as well as the events in Turkey, France and Germany.

“Therefore, the closing ceremony is a little sad, but eventually, life isn’t consisted of only funny moments,” she explained. “Moreover, it is connected with the end of the competition.”

The head coach also added that athletes of all ages, representing artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, tumbling, acrobatics and aerobics will perform during the closing ceremony.

The FIG World Cup Final in Rhythmic Gymnastics will last until July 24, giving a unique opportunity to watch the performances of eminent gymnasts from 17 countries two weeks prior to the Rio Olympics.

Twenty-six gymnasts and 9 teams will compete for medals in the all-around on the first two days of competitions. Apparatus finals will be held on the event’s last day.

A traditional Gala will be held on July 24, as part of the FIG World Cup Final in Rhythmic Gymnastics in Baku.
