Azerbaijan's chess players show their best in Georgia

The grandiose 24th European Youth Chess Championship 2014 wrapped up in Batumi, coastal town in Georgia.

Co-organized by Georgian Chess Federation and European Chess Association, the championship was held from October 18 to 29.

The competition gathered 989 young chess players from 45 European countries, divided in 12 categories: U8, U10, U12, U14, U16 and U18, boys and girls separately.

Chess players from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Bulgaria, Czech, Dania, England, Finland, France, Israel, Italy, Austria and many others took part in the championship.

Azerbaijani chess players including Parviz Gasimov, Ulviyya Fataliyeva, Aydan Hojjatova, Govhar Beydullayeva and Malak Ismayil successfully presented the country in this influential competition.

Azerbaijan won two gold, one silver and two bronze medals.

In the oldest Girls section, WFM Ulviyya (ELO 2117) won the championship with 8 points and very solid play. Silver went to WFM Nato Imnadze (ELO 2175) from Georgia, and bronze went to Russian WIM Anna Styazhkina (ELO 2205) with 7 points.

In the group U10, the member of national team, Malak brought the second gold medal to the team's haul, with 7.5 points. Mariam Mkrtchyan from Armenia took the second place, while the bronze medal went Anastassia Sinitsina from Estonia.

Another national member Govhar (ELO 1671), showing good result took silver medal with 7 points. Ekaterina Goltseva (ELO 2030) from Russia became the Champion U12 with 8.0 points while bronze went to Aleksandra Maltsevskaya (ELO 1991) from Russia also with 7 points.

Azerbaijani chess player Aydan (ELO 2104) won the bronze medal with 7 points. Mai Narva (ELO 2123) from Estonia won the group U16 with 7.5 points, followed by Georgian WFM Nino Khomeriki (ELO 2168) with 7 points.

One more bronze medal was brought by Parviz, who gained 7 points. Timur Fakhrutdinov from Russia (ELO 2290) became the winner of the group U14. He gained 7.5 points, the same as FM Aram Hakobyan (ELO 2245) from Armenia, who won silver.
