
Drivers can use special devices connected to a mobile phone and not hampering the safe driving in Azerbaijan after the legislative changes, Interior Ministry Traffic Police Department spokesman Kamran Aliyev told Trend.
At an extraordinary meeting of the Azerbaijani parliament in late June, the Law on Amendments and Supplements to the Law of the Azerbaijan Republic "Traffic rules" was adopted. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree to apply it in early July. According to one of the changes, the amount of the fine for talking over a mobile phone while driving is 50 manat.
"It is difficult for drivers with phones in their hands to maneuver in extreme situations, avoid obstacles. While using handsfree, bluetooth, a driver can talk over phone without taking his hands off the wheel," Aliyev said.
He said that smoking while driving is a danger. "However, on the other hand, the driver does not hold a cigarette in his hand for a long time as the switch gear," he said.
Aliyev noted that the changes in the law does not apply to drivers of emergency vehicles. "In connection with the operational tasks, points of the law 'Traffic rules' do not apply to drivers of emergency vehicles - police, fire brigade and ambulance.
