Baku hosts first Children Forum of Azerbaijan

Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Problems and NUR Public Union of Children and Youth organized the first Children Forum of Azerbaijan in Baku as part fo the the Children’s Year 2009 on Dec. 17.

A letter of congratulation sent by the President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Member of the Parliament Mehriban Aliyeva was read out at the forum.

"The children are tender part of the society. There are all opportunities in Azerbaijan to create healthy environment and good education for children," the letter said.

The goal of Children’s Year in Azerbaijan realize children's talent and potential.

Deputy Prime Minister Elchin Efendiyev said the government of Azerbaijan submitted four periodical reports about the children to the UN relevant agencies.

He said solution of the children problems was one of the main directions of the government policy in the country.

“The Heydar Aliyev Foundation carries out important projects to organize good education and healthcare conditions for the children. Currently reducing children's death rate and creating more intellectual environment for children of pre-school age are priorities in Azerbaijan”.

Efendiyev said more than 30 state programs were carried out for the solution of children problems.

Vice Speaker of the Parliament Bahar Muradova said the Azerbaijani Constitution and nearly 70 bills adopted by the parliament, including the law on the children’s rights were protecting the children’s rights.

She said the Azerbaijani parliament has ratified nearly 15 international conventions about the children’s rights so far.

The forum participants will award the President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Member of the Parliament Mehriban Aliyeva with the prize of “Heart of Gold”.

The forum will end on Dec. 18.

The forum participants will address President Ilham Aliyev and adopt final declaration at the end of the event.
