In January 2010, The United States National Public Radio will launch a year-long exploration of 50 great voices in recorded history.
According to APA’s Washington DC correspondent, a famous Azerbaijani mugham singer Alim Qasimov, who has visited the United States for a number of times, is among the nominees. When the contest was announced, the organizers got lots of different variants.
As the radio statement says, NPR and a panel of experts are in the process of whittling them down to about 100 singers, among whom the 50 great voices will be chosen.
It is the first time since Azerbaijani singer is among “participants” of a popular competition among Louis Armstrong, Busta Rhymes, Bob Marley, Freddie Mercury, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Nina Simone, Barbra Streisand, Bessie Smith, Bjork, Maria Callas, Montserrat Caballe and Elvis Presley.
