Journalists sue Baku Mayor's Office and Sabail district police office

24 May 2007 [08:28] - TODAY.AZ
A group of journalists appealed to Sebayel district court with regard to Baku Mayor's Office and Sabail district police office.

The journalists claimed that their rights of freedom of assembly, freedom of expression are violated. 15 journalists signed the claim. They demand compensation of AZN300,000 to each of the claimants. The appeal says that they were not allowed picketing on April 17 and May 15 and with this violated law. Though Baku Mayor's Office was appealed for the two pickets the city administration did not sanction the picket and the police prevented the protest action.

Chief of Baku Mayor's Office department on work with public organizations and political parties Zaur Ramazanov refused to comment on the problem. "The pickets were prohibited according to law," he said. APA
