TURKSOY member states discuss leadership

21 November 2006 [13:04] - TODAY.AZ
The change of the leader of Turkish Culture and Arts Joint Management Association (TURKSOY) is on the agenda.

The issue of the new leader became more urgent after Polad Bulbuloglu was appointed as ambassador of Azerbaijan to Russia. TURKSOY member states could not still choose any leader to the organization. "The candidacy of former Turkey Culture Minister, the president of Ahmed Yasafi Circle, Namiq Kamal Zeybek was discussed, but as he did not know Russian language, he could not be chosen to the post. Other candidate to the post was Chingiz Aytmatov but he was not chosen because of his health problems. At present, member states continue agreements on the candidates from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. One of the real candidates is the Azerbaijan Culture Minister Abulfaz Garayev. But his leadership should be concurred by all the member states."

It should be noted that TURKSOY was founded by the letter of intent signed by Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan in 1992. The aim of the organization is to build friendship relations among Turkish countries, to achieve the creation of alphabet system and joint language and to find out joint culture, history and traditions of Turkish speaking countries. Besides the founder countries, Altay region, Bashgirdistan, Gagauz Yeri, Khakasiya, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Yakutiya, Tatarstan and Tuva are represented in the organization with observer status.
