03 June 2006 [13:51] - TODAY.AZ
More than 60 students of the Independent Azerbaijan University (IAU) keep on going on hunger strike protesting against the Education Ministry's decision to close the private university.

Some of the protesters are having health problems today, the strikers told APA.

Doctor Reyhan Izzetpenah said the hunger strike is going on in insanitation. The room is very dirty and stuff, there is no bed to lie on.

As the university authorities do not allow taking blankets for the strikers, they have to lie on the desks. Some of them have high fever. Ambulance doctors took blood samples from the strikers to test for malaria. The danger of spread of severe respiratory diseases among the students is increasing. Thus, symptoms are developing in some of them. Some of the students had very low pressure, and they were injected caffeine. The students rejected to take medications.
