Azerbaijani students won silver award in Egypt

Solemn closing ceremony of the XXV Peoples Days festival was held in Egypt's Ayn Shams University.

The APA's correspondent in Egypt reports that the objective of the festival was to provide an opportunity for students from different countries studying in Egyptian universities to demonstrate and propagate their cultures.

The members of the Azerbaijanis Motherland Student Society in Egypt (AMSSE) also participated in the 25th festival called the Peoples Days Festival. Our compatriots, who participated in the Foreign Students Days for the first time in 2005, won in this prominent event, which is very important for nations from the aspect of demonstrating their cultures. The final results of the festival started on 29 April were announced yesterday.

According to the results, our students won the second award of the festival among the representatives from 17 nations. Head of the AMSSE Parviz Musayev and secretary of the Society Jafar Garayev were awarded a special prize for worthily propagating Azerbaijani culture.

After the presentation of the awards, the representatives of participant states performed music and dances of their cultures. Azerbaijani students' performances were particularly approved by the audience.

Third-year student of the University's languages faculty Imran Sadikhov, in his speech, introduced Azerbaijan, its geographical position, history, culture.

Music items on the basis of the fusion of Azerbaijani, Western and Eastern music were performed on drum, other percussion instruments and Azerbaijani special musical instrument tar.

Besides, a fragment from Azerbaijani mugham Gatar and Jangi song were performed. Azerbaijani students waved our national flag on the stage during performing.

Azerbaijani journalists, who visited Egypt through the foundation for cooperation with CIS states at Egypt’s Foreign Ministry, also attended the ceremony of presentation of awards of the festival.

The AMSSE president Parviz Musayev told APA that this award belongs to all of the Azerbaijani people. Musayev also said the Society plans to implement a number of projects.

Days of Azerbaijan were also held in the framework of the festival in the assembly hall of the University. In the exhibition, exhibits dedicated to the Nagorno Garabagh conflict and the Khojali genocide of Azerbaijanis were displayed in only 64 sq. meters area.

Azerbaijani students also displayed video-variant of materials on the Khojaly genocide translated to Arabic. A special stand dedicated to the 14th anniversary of the occupation of Azerbaijani town of Shusha by Armenian armed forces was also demonstrated.

The AMSSE secretary Jafar Garayev told APA that the participation in the festival and organization of the exhibition were funded by the account of voluntarily donated money by the students.

Though Armenian students did not participate in the festival, there were some Armenian representatives.
