Azerbaijani people will have a good opportunity to take a rest in January, as the government declared five non-working days.

Thus, in conjunction with the Solidarity Day of World Azerbaijanis and the New Year December 31, and January 1-4 were announced non-working days.

Every year Azerbaijanis celebrate the last day of the December as Solidarity Day, and since 2006 January 1 and 2 are celebrated as new Year holidays.

Due to the fact that this year, January 2 falls on Saturday, then January 4 will also be considered non-working day.

Based on Article 105 of the Labor Code, if public holidays fall on weekends, the day-off is moved to the next working day immediately after the holiday.

The solidarity day was initiated by Azerbaijan's late national leader, former President Heydar Aliyev on December 16, 1993. In accordance with a presidential decree, the last day of December is annually celebrated as the day highlighting unity of world Azerbaijanis.

About 50 million Azerbaijanis currently live in countries around the world, including Iran (South Azerbaijan), Turkey, Germany, France, Britain, the United States, as well as the Middle East countries. The biggest Azerbaijani diaspora, numbering 1.5 to 2 million people, is in Russia.
