“European Games showed Azerbaijan’s potential in construction”

Organizing and holding of the first European Games in Baku showed Azerbaijan’s potential in the construction sector and the country's readiness to hold the events of such kind and scale in the future, Dovletkhan Dovletkhanov, the Azerbaijani deputy chairman of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture, said Oct. 21.

Dovletkhanov made the statement at the opening ceremony of the 21st Azerbaijan International Construction Exhibition BakuBuild, the 8th international "Heating, ventilation and air conditioning, water supply, sanitary, environmental technology, swimming pools and renewable energy exhibition" and the 8th Caspian International Protection, Security and Rescue Exhibition.

"A lot of new design solutions, construction materials and funds were used as part of the work in connection with the European Games,” he said. “Along with local designers and builders, the foreign specialists were also involved in this work. The joint work of local and foreign experts plays an important role in learning from the international experience in the construction sector."

The First European Games were held in Baku on June 12-28, 2015. There were a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. Over 6,000 athletes represented the European countries in these Games.

Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Niyazi Safarov said that the measures on diversifying the economy and developing the non-oil sector, protecting the investors’ rights, creating favorable business and investment environment, as well as mechanisms for supporting entrepreneurs have created an opportunity to expand the competitiveness and range of products in the construction sector.

He believes that such exhibitions allow to exchange experience with foreign companies, develop the relations with them and show Azerbaijan’s achievements in this sector.

“BakuBuild is the largest exhibition held in Azerbaijan,” said the deputy minister. “It involves over 500 companies from about 50 countries, of which around 160 companies represent Azerbaijan.”
