Azerbaijan’s defense ministry has said the Armenian media is trying to hide the negative events taking place in the Armenian military with misinformation.

The ministry reported about an incident in the Armenian armed forces on October 3.

It said several Armenian media outlets spread misinformation that a division of the Azerbaijani military allegedly violated the ceasefire on the contact line of Armenian-Azerbaijani troops from Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, thereby creating tensions on the frontier.

A shootout indeed ensued among soldiers of the Armenian military, the ministry noted.

Approximately on October 1 at 23:00, insulting shouts of the personnel were heard and up to ten rounds from small arms were heard being discharged in the enemy position.

The ministry said at about 23:40, representatives of the Armenian commanding arrived at the scene by UAZ car and in the morning, about five Armenian soldiers were forced into the car and were taken away into the direction of the regiment.

Propaganda spread by Armenian mediaserves as another method of provocation by the military and political leadership of Armenia against Azerbaijan, aimed at hiding negative domestic occurrences from their own people, thedefense ministry emphasized.

The ministry said the units of Azerbaijani armed forces fully control the operational situation from positions located at these heights.

The Armenian media periodically spreads misinformation about alleged ceasefire violations by the Azerbaijani military on the contact line of troops.

However, with an escalation of tensions on the contact line, the spreading of misinformation about ceasefire violations, and accusing Azerbaijan for provocation, the Armenian side is attempting to divert the people’s attention from the chaos inside the country.

The contact line remained tense over past several days as the Armenian military continued to break the ceasefire using large-caliber machine guns. Frequent shelling by the Armenian military has put the lives of the residents of Azerbaijan’s frontline settlements in danger and has resulted in casualties.

The Armenian armed forces violated the ceasefire in different at various points alongthe contact line of troops with heavy machine guns and mortars about 90 times over the past day.

The Azerbaijani Army gave a worthy response to the Armenian shootings at the frontline, forcing them to retreat.

For over two decades, Azerbaijan and Armenia have been locked in conflict which emerged over Armenia's territorial claims against its South Caucasus neighbor. Since a war in the early 1990s, the Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions.

Peace talks, mediated by Russia, France and the U.S. through the OSCE Minsk Group, are underway on the basis of a peace outline proposed by the Minsk Group co-chairs and dubbed the Madrid Principles. The negotiations have been largely fruitless so far.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on its pullout from the neighboring country's territories.
