A resident of the Kemerli village of the Azerbaijani Gazakh region, Dursunova Esmira, was wounded following the provocation by the Armenian militaries. The civilian was hospitalized, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reported on September 24.

The Armenian armed forces stationed on Dovekh village of the Armenian Noyemberyan region opened fire at Azerbaijani positions.

“As always, the Armenian side deliberately commits such provocative acts during major events and festivals in Azerbaijan and aims to bring our armed forces to the provocation,” the ministry said.

The Defense Ministry stresses that in order to suppress the enemy, Azerbaijani Armed Forces inflicted powerful fire strikes on the enemy points, positions and trenches.

“We reiterate that the opposite side bears the responsibility for all the losses and destruction on the enemy side,” the ministry reported.

The ministry further added that over the past 24 hours, Armenian military 92 times broke ceasefire on various parts of the contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian troops.

Azerbaijani positions also came under fire of Armenians stationed in Tapgaragoyunlu, Talish, Gulustan villages of the Goranboy district, Chilyaburt, Goyarkh, Gizil Oba, Chayli villages of the Terter district, Novruzlu, Sarijali, Qaraqashli, Yusifjanli, Kengarli, Shuraabad, Merzili villages of the Aghdam district, Kuropatkino village of the Khojavand district, Horadiz, Garakhanbayli, Gorgan, Ashagi Seyidahmadli, Ashagi Abdurrakhmanli villages of the Fizuli district and Mehdili village of the Jabrail district.

Given the operational situation, the Azerbaijani armed forces inflicted 124 fire strikes on the enemy positions.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
