Election commission registers 839 MP candidates so far

The number of persons, which have applied to the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan to register as candidates in the upcoming parliamentary elections, has reached 1,017.

This was announced by the Chairman of the CEC, Mazahir Panahov, on September 19.

"Some 506 of them were nominated by political parties, 37 – by the bloc of political parties, 3 – by initiative groups, 471 - self-nominated,” he said. “The nomination of 839 candidates was approved. Some 721 people received the signature sheets. Some 64 people returned the signature sheets. Some 19 candidates were registered. Five candidates were nominated by the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, the rest – by the Civil Solidarity Party and Umid party. The candidates of 14 more people were nominated on an individual basis."

The CEC also registered four plenipotentiary representatives of the National Democratic Party of Azerbaijan on the September 19.

Preparations are already underway for this upcoming significant event in the political life of the country.

The CEC jointly with the country's Interior Ministry has prepared and published a brochure on the participation of policemen and observers in the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for November 1.

The brochure provides information on the measures that the police will take in the pre-election campaign period, on the voting day and during the transportation and protection of election documents.

Campaigning will start on October 9 and will end on October 31 at 8:00 a.m., exactly 23 days before voting as required by law. Campaign leaflets will be placed at polling stations until October 2.

The submission of all election documents necessary for the registration of candidates to district election commissions kicked off on September 12 and will last until 18:00 October 2.

According to the schedule, election documents can be submitted by the candidate and his/her authorized representative, or the authorized representative of the political party/bloc of the candidate.

The verification of the authenticity of documentation and decisions regarding candidate eligibility will be made within seven days after receiving the documents at the district election commissions.

Registration for election monitoring should be submitted to the CEC by October 22.
