The inaugural Baku 2015 European Games is not only a joyful and sporting holiday, but it is a real test for the entire capital city and its transport system in particular. The transport will be of high priority for the Games - which will gather over 9,000 people in Baku on June 12-28.

Located at a crossroad in between East and West, most guests will enter Azerbaijan via its international airport - the Heydar Aliyev International Airport.

The modern airport will operate in enhanced mode to ensure the safety of all passengers and ensure that all services run at a high level during this historic event.

Moreover, if necessary, the Azerbaijan Airlines Company will deploy additional planes for international flights.

The airport is located 20 km from Baku, which can be covered by taxi or buses. Public buses are far more cheaper in Azerbaijan than in Europe. Here, tourists can reach the city by spending about $0.19. But for those, who value comfort more, there are a bunch of brand new so-called London taxis - purple in Baku.

Over 1,250 of such taxis drivers visited special training center to learn the routes of the Baku 2015 Games. Bus drivers also attended these classes.

The next public transport in Azerbaijan located next to the Olympic Stadium and the Athletes village is the Baku Metro. This is one of the fastest ways to travel in Baku, and also the most inexpensive.

Guests of the capital can also buy a single card for buses, underground and railway transport, which will be very convenient for those who travel a lot.

Electric trains will start operating at the Baku Railway Station and the Koroglu Metro Station as part of the Games. The electric trains will operate within the boundaries of Baku and its neighboring townships.

Special centers will be established near the 8 metro stations to transport fans to and from the venues.

This June, public transport will run 20 hours a day! Moreover, public transport’s schedule will be agreed with the schedule of express buses that will provide services to athletes, spectators and all the Games' accredited persons.

Along with special transport for accredited persons, 500 new white ‘London taxis’ were brought to Baku to be used free of charge by officials of the Organizing Committee of the Games.

Over one million people will be served during the Baku 2015, and measures to improve the quality of services of Baku transport infrastructure will continue. Baku has already tested its transport system last week.

In addition, special stripes were created on the roads of the capital to facilitate transportation during the Games. Regular vehicles will not be able to use these stripes.

With all these measures, transport in the capital is expected to run smoothly.
