Azerbaijan National Oncology Center has signed a cooperation agreement with the U.S.-based Varian Medical Systems.

Varian is a premier supplier of tubes and digital detectors for X-ray imaging in medical, scientific, and industrial applications. It also supplies X-ray imaging products for cargo screening and industrial inspection.

The agreement was signed by Director of Azerbaijan National Oncology Center, academician Jamil Aliyev and Regional Sales Director of Varian Medical Systems Fritz Derrer.

Addressing the signing ceremony, Aliyev highlighted Azerbaijan's achievements in the field of oncology.

He hailed measures taken under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev to strengthen material and technical infrastructure of medical centers tasked with providing services to people with oncological diseases.

Aliyev noted that the agreement is the main proof of President Ilham Aliyev's successful social policy.

The signing agreement demonstrates this fact that other leading clinics in the world have accepted Azerbaijan National Oncology Center's high standard assistance to people with oncological diseases.

"The deal will contribute to expanding the cooperation with our partners, and also help us ensure quick delivery of cutting-edge technologies to Azerbaijan, and pave the way for carrying out a wide exchange of views with foreign specialists. It will help us improve the quality of medical services provided to people with oncological diseases," Aliyev cited.

Derrer, for his turn, gave information about Varian Medical Systems, the world's leading manufacturer of medical devices and software for treating cancer and other medical conditions with radiotherapy, radio surgery, proton therapy, and brachytherapy.

He said that the company supplies informatics software for managing comprehensive cancer clinics, radiotherapy centers and medical oncology practices.

Varian has already established its centers in five European countries and the new center will operate in Azerbaijan National Oncology Center in Baku.
