EU President and Foreign Minister Angel Moratinos has come up with a proposal to expand the monitoring mission in Georgia.
The EU President said after the meeting with Grigol Vashadze, Foreign Minister of Georgia, that at present the EU monitors have no opportunity to conduct monitoring of Abkhaz and Tskhinvali regions, but work with Russian authorities in this regard is being conducted.
He noted that the EU supports sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia in the framework of internationally recognized borders of the country.
The EUMM has been working in Georgia since Oct. 1, 2008, the personnel counts 300 employees.
The mission head, Hansjörg Haber, said at the next stage the monitoring will be conducted not only at the adjacent territories, but also Abkhaz and Tskhinvali regions themselves.
