Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry hosted a meeting with the European Union Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Ambassador Roland Kobia, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in a message on November 17.

The sides exchanged views on topical issues of the regional agenda, discussed the current security situation in Afghanistan and the mechanisms of regional cooperation of the Central Asian countries and Afghanistan.

The parties expressed support for a peaceful settlement of the situation in Afghanistan and noted the importance of further cooperation within the EU-Central Asia dialogue on security with the participation of Afghanistan. Noting Turkmenistan’s interest in ensuring security, peace and sustainable development in Central Asia and Afghanistan as well as the country’s positive experience, proposals were made to consolidate joint efforts in this direction, says the message.

The meeting’s agenda included the fight against international and regional threats to security, such as terrorism and radicalism, the fight against drugs as part of the EU programs, and joint activities of the Central Asian countries and the European Union on border management.

The two sides also noted the importance of the 7th Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA VII), held recently in Ashgabat, in further regional economic integration.
